Halloween crow Post
From top to bottom - 2005, 2007 and 2009. One thing that strikes me immediately is that there isn't as much improvement, especially considering these 3 pieces span 4 years. I think that the center crow is most successful from an illustrator perspective. While the 09 crow I think has a better composition, and is more 'designed'.
The center crow by the end had no real pencil lines showing beneath it. While 05 was pretty much fully rendered in pencil and glazed over with Photoshop. 09 is some kind of weird hybrid, way more of the sketch was kept - and I erased where I needed to.
Digital painting is frustrating to me, I like being able to see and correct silly mistakes quickly. But my colors are always soooo saturated, and I dont blend. With paints/markers/pencils I naturally blend my colors. I guess it really doesn't matter which one I use - whatever gets the job done the most effectively.
My main problem - is that I'm very impatient. Maybe falling back on something that lets me describe form with more lines than value - acrylic or water color washes would help me get the better quality pieces that I want.
I may go and do the dreaded 'media study' compairing marker/colored pencil (or something) to digital. I need to go back to the still life and studies for a while, methinks.

Halloween 09
I have done a digi painting every other Halloween of a crow-chick. (I want it to be every Halloween - but it seems to be every 2 years)
Here is this years sketch - I'm going to re-upload all three from the past years to kind of have a good crit session with them all.
She is seeming to sport a pin-up girl look this year - and I may shorten that outstretched leg a bit - seems too long.

IF - Unfold
Found a great pic on DA from a stock artist I watch - Erian-stock. For illustration Friday's "unfold" Something is getting ready to unfold here. A maiden is chained up in a dusty old room... Are you sure you want to save her?I like the premise, nice exercise in creating an interesting silhouette - though the cloth is a bit mushy looking.

Remember that thing you used to do?
"...what thing?"
"You know, art. You went to school for it and stuff."
"Oh yeah, what about it?"
"Don't you remember how much fun it was?"

Yep... sure do.
First two are from sketch group tonight, middle two are some photos I found on DA
Here and here, respectively. Last one to be turned into a painting.
I haven't forgot about my album project - this sketch barrage is in preparation for it.
